As we approach the end of another year, many of us will choose to make a list of New Year’s Resolutions. The New Year brings promise and allows us to literally and figuratively clean house and rid ourselves from personal demons and those who do not wish for our success. It’s a great time to remove the shackles that bind.
Another way to become reborn is through confession, whether it be via a church or through something more new age as they do in CONFESSIONAL, a strong pilot recently released on Strike.TV. Written by Ken LaZebnik (”A Prairie Home Companion”) and directed by Robert J. Visciglia (”Touched by an Angel”), Confessional stars David Burke and Kate Fuglei in a nice vignette set in NoHo. That’s the nickname for the Arts district in North Hollywood in the southeastern portion of the San Fernando Valley.
At the end of the episode which sports a neat twist, viewers are encouraged to submit their own confessions at LAConfessional.com.
Some famous quotes about the act of confession:
“It is the confession, not the priest, that gives us absolution” - Oscar Wilde
“I am ashamed of confessing that I have nothing to confess.” - Fanny Burney
“Confessed faults are half-mended.” - Scottish Proverb
Happy New Year!!

Yes, the people at this holiday party may be ‘horrible’ but you’ll love them anyway. At this festive time of year, it’s important to laugh and you will with this clever web series called HORRIBLE PEOPLE. Created, written and directed by A.D. Miles and featuring a talented cast, Horrible People gives you 10 episodes…almost enough for one of each day of Christmas.
I first discovered this show on My Damn Channel, but you can get more details and merchandise from HorriblePeople.Tv.
You’ll enjoy this programming most if you have a slightly demented sense of humor, or if you like whodunit murder mysteries, soap operas, tales of revenge, French people and good champagne. Speaking of champagne, this series has come up with a novel way of avoiding those embarrassing ‘toasts’ should you ever find yourself in that sort of bind. Click here to get started: EPISODE #1.
Now, let’s raise our glasses and hope for season two. Cheers!

I stumbled across a funny show today on Koldcast.TV called Average Betty. They claim Betty “does for home cooking what punk did for rock ‘n’ roll”. Now THAT’S a tall order, because I was a punk when it was PUNK and not Green Day. Hey, I like Billie Joe Armstrong as much as the next guy but c’mon, kids under 30 think that he started that sound! Not so Daddy-O…..
Anyway, back to BETTY. Betty is wise and flirty, and she includes recipes that look like they’d taste pretty good! The current episode is called “Picky Eater Chicken Finger” and if you have kids you’ll be able to relate. Also, I must confess to being something of a picky eater myself and I laughed out loud several times as they explained the various types of picky eaters found in North America.
This episode is Average Betty #47 so there’s a lot more where this came from. Yum…what’s for dinner….chicken fingers?

Strike.TV has struck again! I found a delightful new dating web show called SPEEDIE-DATE which has just premiered online and it’s worth looking into.
For the uninitiated (which might include myself as I’ve been married so long they didn’t have this as an option when I was single), speed dating is an exercise where single men and women spend a short period of time - in this case 6 minutes - chatting with each other to determine if they should….chat for longer periods of time. It makes a weird sort of sense in our fast-paced, multitasking world, I guess. At least it’s human to human and not a completely digital communication exchange!
Episode 1 deals with Heather and Mike at Table 4. It’s sweet and actually, the time does indeed fly by! It’s not nearly enough time to get to know the characters but that’s half the fun. I like the feeling of wanting more. Take a visit to the self-titled website, SpeedieDate.com to view information on upcoming episodes which launch each week.

I found a funny new web series while reading up on Tilzy.Tv today. I love the way they review web shows with such intelligence and wit. I also found it funny that the author kept referring to the hit TV series Mad Men about Madison Avenue agency men because that was his chief point of reference. I know Mad Men is supposed to be great and it won a lot of awards recently, but I’ve never seen it. I guess I’ll have to now!
However, I HAVE worked with many, many ad agencies and can attest to the fact that the employees and bosses depicted in Agency of Record on My Damn Channel are not THAT far off the mark. An agency has to be a virtual fountain of endless creativity. While some ideas and campaigns are truly remarkable, some will surely be laughed about in Adrants.
What struck me as particularly amusing was how the ‘Over the Hill” guys were dressed. They are obviously twenty-somethings trying to appear over 30. Everyone knows that people over 30 wear the clothes of twenty-somethings. Those over 40 also wear the clothes of twenty-somethings, and so and so on. I’m sure you’ll occasionally see a 55 year old in a Wet Seal store, acting like they’re buying something for their tween, but now you know why they’re really there.
Agency of Record is a bouncy and likable show narrated by the very capable Sierra, who showcases the glorious Adobe software by capturing her team’s antics into plausible print ad campaigns for some kind of drink called Amplijuice. Say, that sounds good right about now.
Love the graphics, animation, acting and the music, too. It’s brought to you by the fine folks who dreamed up You Suck at Photoshop …so you know it won’t suck.

Merriam-Webster’s online dictionary defines a FAN as such: an enthusiastic devotee, ardent admirer or enthusiast, and guesses it’s etymology to come from the word fanatic.
THESE are the fans of which I speak and the social web has drawn them out of the woodwork. Some of them, like Chris Crocker landed their own development deal after showing their “fannage”….in this case for supreme devotion to Britney Spears. Warning: the video below contains explicit material, so hurry up and watch it!
How YOU can become a Fan in 3 Easy Lessons:
1. Become a fan of my company’s first web series My Two Fans, launching on March 9, 2009. Visit our splash page and sign up for email and mobile updates: My Two Fans

What are your Barbie memories? That’s the question asked by the sponsor of Amy Poehler’s new web series called SMART GIRLS AT THE PARTY, distributed by ON Networks.

Amy Poehler (SNL, Baby Mama, Blades of Glory) is one smart woman and she’s partnered up with her professional pals to create a series that celebrates how girls can succeed and make a difference simply by being themselves. Her co-producer friends are Meredith Walker, a former senior producer for NICK News and SNL Talent Development Head, and Amy Miles, a popular singer/songwriter and host of PBS’ Lomax: Hound of Music.
In this series of 8 shows (with more seasons already planned), Amy and friends interview each pre-teen girl to showcase the average smart girl next door. This type of show might have a real chance of helping other girls to boost their self-confidence. Unlike America’s Got Talent, American Idol or other shows that feature only the best talents in a few different areas, this show celebrates the diverse creative talents of kids like yours or mine. And at this young age a burgeoning talent of any kind (in girls and boys) needs encouragement. Perhaps a boost now will lead to a lifelong passion, a career path or something else truly great.
Check out the first episode with Cameron, a young writer.

What is often called the hardest job in the world that you’ll absolutely love? Parenting. And I can personally vouch for this.

It is. Hard - at times, but less when you use your common sense and follow your heart. Awesome - yes. All the time. I chose the word ‘awesome’ as opposed to ‘wonderful’ as I feel the former could imply something powerful but not necessarily good. What do I mean by that?
1. Realizing that these little souls believe everything you tell them, at least until they turn 12, or so I’ve heard. Not there yet.
2. Being forever subjected to that catch in your throat feeling with your eyes welling up every time you hear of anyone’s child dying or getting sick, being abused, abandoned, falling down and getting a boo-boo, succeeding, saying please and thank you, getting into Harvard, not getting into Harvard, getting married, becoming student of the month……I think you can see where I’m going here.
My ONLY caveat to this universal we-are-all-parents-of-every-child cult is this……this is a what a GOOD parent feels.
Maybe not everyone is a good parent. Take this couple in Strike.TV’s FAUX BABY. They think they want to have a baby but are very unsure whether they’ll be good parents or not. They seek counseling and get a faux baby to practice with. The web series follows their absurdly funny days and nights with their fake infant that pees, poops, cries and drinks hair conditioner formula.
In episode one I saw a very tender moment that happened to me. When a new mother rocks a fussy baby to sleep she is usually well-served to sing a lullaby. This new mom realized that she didn’t know the words to the ‘freakin’ song’ and I can relate. Who sings Rock-a-Bye Baby, Frere Jacques and the Grand Old Duke of York unless they’re rocking a cranky baby to sleep at 3am? Well, not me and not our character in Faux Baby. Of course, I didn’t do what SHE did shortly thereafter in the scene….but you’ll just have to watch it to see what I mean!
Now - if you’re pregnant or thinking of becoming so, click on this site: Lullaby Lyrics! and start learning those lullabies now.
PS—I love you, Jake & Roxy!

Getting Away with Murder is a smart and stylish comedy with a twist….a twist of a knife or a bullet to the gullet or something equally explosive. It’s both violent and hilarious, which somehow makes everything cartoon-y enough to not be as violent. Make sense? The theme song sets the tone for the artfully shot and acted series found on IFC.com. The vibe is early Peter Sellers in his 1967 Casino Royale phase.
Seth Silver is a twenty-something vet assistant who lives at home with his mother. OK, so maybe that’s NOT terribly unusual these days, but get this: he’s really a hit man. There are 16 episodes to choose from and they look great. I love the music and sound design which is often missing from current web series programming.

Right now I’ve been enjoying episodes #10-#14 where our hapless hero (played by Gilbert John) is trying to have a successful first date with Lily. Number #10 will start you on on this nice story arc. Of course once you view these you’ll be tempted to watch them all!
